Best Golf Rain Jackets
Golf shouldn’t stop when the weather turns inclement, it is one of very few sports that can be played in pretty much anything. That being said, you must be prepared. No matter where you are playing, you should always have the best golf waterproofs (opens in new tab) to protect you from the elements. Whether that be trousers (opens in new tab), waterproof shoes (opens in new tab) or rain gloves (opens in new tab) and so on and so forth.
Arguably the most important waterproof element to your golfing setup is the jacket because not only will a good model shelter you from the rain and wind, but it will also make the golfing experience infinitely more comfortable despite the conditions. The best golf rain jackets do this to a high level thanks to high-tech fabrics and materials which bead the water off the player. Additionally a big signifier of a good golf jacket is how easy it is to move in. The golf swing is a fluid movement and being able to do it whilst wearing several layers is important, so the best models stretch and don't hinder the body or swing at all.
We also think a good golf jacket needs to provide a degree of protection from the wind, warmth in the cold, and also cool design features and colors that either stand out or aid versatility to be able to use the jacket off the course. Models these days should also be easy to wash if necessary too and it's plain to see that there is a lot of technology crammed into some of the best golf jackets making them a fantastic present if you want to spoil an avid golfer in your life. And as the holiday period is fast approaching, why not also check out some of our ideas on the best Christmas golf gift ideas (opens in new tab)!
Bearing that in mind, we have put together a list of the best golf rain jackets out right now. Alternatively if you need more golf gear when the weather gets cold and wet, check out our other guides on the best golf rain gear (opens in new tab) and best golf wind jackets (opens in new tab) too.

Sizes: XS-2XL
Colors: 2 Full Zip (Black, Hemp), 2 Half Zip (Crew Navy, Legend Earth)
+ Weather protection really top notch
+ Looks great and can be used anywhere
- Collar is quite high
A no-brainer inclusion in this best golf rain jackets guide, the adidas Rain.Rdy is an outstanding model to help you be prepared for any weather when out on the golf course. Specifically designed to deal with the worst conditions, you can get a full zip design (pictured), and a half-zip in a couple of different colors each.
We tested the black full zip and the protection was really up there with the best models on the market. It has a three layer design with a waterproof, breathable membrane that not only keeps out the rain and wind, but it is also very light, durable and stretchy. The jacket is also quiet when moving and we love a jacket with pockets too. The only minor quibble was the collar is quite high, but on those really rough weather days, that might be a blessing in disguise! Finally, looks wise it is very smart.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 2 (Black, Blue)
+ Competes with the best in terms of protection
+ Ventilated back is a nice touch
- Double zip can be a touch fiddly
Highly waterproof, breathable and lightweight, the Puma Ultradry jacket is a great garment at a very competitive price in this space. The material is lightweight enough to not make you too warm inside and waterproof enough to keep up to 10,000mm of rain out. At this price, such high quality material is hard to come by.
The best part about Ultradry jacket is that is has adjustable cuffs and zippered side pockets. The adjustable cuffs were especially useful in wet conditions where tightening the cuffs meant no rain could get in through to the arms. The side pockets are really comfortably placed to leave your hands in and the waterproof zippers mean you can keep accessories like balls, tees and pitch mark repairers dry.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 2 (Navy/Black, Charcoal/Lime)
+ Extremely comfortable and warm
+ Able to withstand the worst the winter can throw at you
- Can get hot on the inside
The headline garment in FootJoy's HydroSeries range is this, the HydroTour. It comes with a premium price point but you undoubtedly get premium performance here starting with the waterproofing.
It has a three-panel construction and dual-sealed seams to stop any rain getting to your body and it also has a innovative feature called a DrySeal double collar system, which has a cinch cord on the inner layer to keep the rain out and two small holes on the outer layer that help the water run down the back of the jacket, thereby keeping the neck dry. (Oh and if this isn't enough, it also comes with a three-year waterproof warranty). The material itself felt premium and the styling looked good too.
Sizes: XS-4XL
Colors: 3 (Olive, White, Black)
+ 2 jackets in 1
+ Very good range in sizes
- The material is a little thick
Built with Hypershield fabric to block wind, water and provide a comfortable experience, this model is two jackets in one as the traditional jacket can be changed into a vest. The removable upper/arms are held in place with snap button closure points and whilst that sounds cumbersome, the HyperAdapt technology combines a vent along the back of the shoulders for extra mobility through your swing.
The material is a little thicker than some other rain jackets and water doesn’t bead off overly quickly, but the HyperAdapt ventilation provides enough breathability and comfort. From an aesthetic perspective it certainly looks very smart and doesn't really look like a golf jacket which some will enjoy.
Sizes: S-4XL
Colors: 3 (Sharkskin, Navy, Blue Bell)
+ Great protection from the elements
+ Full zip and feels lightweight
- It is an expensive option
Another excellent model to add to the Galvin Green range is the Albert. It's a new garment and has been constructed using GORE-TEX so it'll be no surprise to learn that it didn't disappoint in this regard. Even when in persistent rain, it kept us dry and pretty warm thanks to mesh lining on the inside.
It's really lightweight and stretchy, making it super easy to swing in, and there is loads of adjustability on offer so a tailored fit can be yours. Velcro straps on the cuffs and on each side of the chest do their job well, while the elastic drawstring at the helm means golfers don't have to worry about any loose fabric getting in the way.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 2 (Blue, Black)
+ Fully waterproof and quick drying
+ Supremely lightweight and stretchy
- Zips are a bit stiff
The SensorDry 2.5 Graphene Jacket is a big innovation from Ping as it is the first time the brand has used Graphene in its apparel range. Ping has incorporated a Graphene print to the inside of the fabric for this jacket, which helps conduct and retain heat.
It also makes the jacket incredibly lightweight, comfortable, it has a good amount of stretch and comes with adjustable wrist cuffs to ensure a nice snug fit. The material is fully waterproof and repels water, drying remarkably quickly. We held it under a tap and the jacket was bone dry almost immediately. A special jacket indeed.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 2 (Black, Blue)
+ Lightweight and stretchy
+ Styling is great
- Adjustable cuffs don't go tight enough
The level of research and development conducted by Under Armour is astounding and you can see the fruits of that labor in this Stormproof 2.0 Jacket (opens in new tab). It does feel very well made and has a very unique feel inside that gives you good peace of mind that no water will come through.
When we tested it over a number of rounds, we found it to be a functional garment that will keep you nice and dry when the heavens open. It is also very lightweight and stretchy for a good comfortable wear that comes up ever-so-slightly on the big side, so if you like a tighter fit we'd recommend sizing down. We also liked the warmth and breathability on offer.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 1 (White)
+ Lightweight but offers warmth and protection
+ Washes well and gets back in pristine white
- Very easy to get dirty marks on it
This ultra stylish design that wouldn't not look out of place in a high fashion setting is actually an incredibly comfortable high performance golf jacket that does a great job of keeping you dry thanks to the water repellant DRY-TEX fabric and heat bonded seams. Wearing the jacket in winter where it’s so easy to get mud and grime on your outfit is a little risky but the garment washes really well and in our experience comes out looking box fresh so long as you follow the care instructions. The magnetized front pockets are really clever and keep the lines of the jacket very clean and the full zip is super high quality. A really standout piece.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 3 (Black, Surf Blue/Pewter, Black/Pewter)
+ High-quality protection
+ Lifetime waterproof guarantee
- Feels bulkier than other models
Building on the success of the PX5 and PX6 models, ProQuip has now introduced the PX7 which is the brand's highest specification and best-in-class men's rain jacket with a lifetime waterproof guarantee.
Available in three colors, the jacket has extreme waterproof protection, and yet still feels breathable. It does feel more bulky than other models on this list however when the conditions are really bad, this is no bad thing as it does not feel cumbersome and limiting during the golf swing. The swing silent technology is an added bonus too because it minimizes any noise during play.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 3 (Navy, Balsam, White)
+ Lightweight, stretchy and offers exceptional protection
+ Subtle but eye-catching camo print design
- Some golfers don’t like wearing a hood on the course
This jacket is available in three colors; Navy, Balsam (green) and the White. The white is by far the most eye-catching with its subtle camo design which while it won't appeal to everyone it undoubtedly dialed up the style factor and gave it a real on and off course credentials. When it comes to protection from wind and rain the Link 3L is the equal of anything on the market.
The three way stretch allows unrestricted movement but also good snug warm fit. One thing to note is that although this is a Classic Fit where I’m normally a medium I had to go up to a large to allow me to wear a mid layer underneath it. The hood wont be for everyone but we liked protection and versatility.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 7+ (Navy, Gunmetal, Black, Electric Blue, Red, Blue, Grey)
+ Well respected brand in terms of waterproofing
+ Clever design features
- Perhaps lacks versatility
We all hate garments that hinder our ability to swing properly when it is raining and this is where the Vancouver comes in. It is a lightweight, yet high-performing waterproof golf jacket rated to 8,000mm which means you’re protected from even heavy downpours and snow. The raglan paneled design uses the fabric’s own natural mechanical stretch with each panel to allow optimum movement through the swing.
It is mesh lined for breathability and comfort, and is engineered for practicality at every turn, with waterproof zips, storm flap and Velcro storm cuffs, drawstring adjusters and fleece lined zip pockets. Available in several colors.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 2 (Blue, Grey)
+ Environmentally conscious construction
+ Design looks modern without being over the top
- Sizes can come up a touch small
We have been fans of Ocean Tee for a while now and this is set to continue with the Beluga Waterproof jacket. It is made from GRS certified recycled polyester and nylon giving it an environmentally sustainable plus point, and the performance from a protection standpoint is good too.
Taped and seam-sealed, the Beluga is 100% water and windproof, and yet is quiet too which is a big bonus throughout the golf swing. It does have a fair amount of stretch, but size wise the jacket is an athletic/slim fit, so if you're in between sizes we'd recommend going with a size up. Overall we felt it ticked all the boxes for a waterproof golf jacket.
Sizes: M-3XL
Colors: 2 (Black, French Navy)
+ Simple and effective design
+ 2-year waterproof guarantee
- Mid Layer needed for a cold day
The Stuburt Evoloution Tech waterproof is a product that will tick many boxes for any golfer looking for a product to help them stay dry. It cleverly uses a ¼ zip to allow for golfers to quickly put on the jacket if caught in a rain shower. The product is very lightweight and would be perfect to store in your golf bag until it was required.
The garment is obviously designed with the other Stuburt apparel range in mind, with it being a thin and breathable product, a mid-layer would be required if it is wet and cold. It should be noted the pockets do have a nice fleecy inner lining, as does the collar where it would interact with the neck - a nice touch on a cold day.
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 2 (Black, Navy)
+ 3-year waterproof guarantee
+ Excellent adjustability to reduce restriction
- Side pockets are a little high and awkward to access
As waterproof jackets go this is one that has certainly had a huge amount of thought go into its design. There is an incredible amount of adjustability, particularly the cuffs, collars, waistline and really good body adjusters. This means that no matter what under layers you are wearing, you will be able to adjust the jacket so that it doesn’t interfere with your swing. The jacket itself is very lightweight, and would need a mid layer to be used if playing on a cold day.
The jacket is part of Oscar Jacobson’s Weather Protection System, which means it comes with a three-year guarantee on the garment’s waterproof qualities. At the price point some will expect more from a jacket, but if you want to stay dry in wet conditions it should enhance your game in the worst of conditions.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 1 (Navy)
+ Clean, versatile design
+ Thin, lightweight material
- Not overly warm
The best golf waterproof jackets need to offer protection while being playable and the Castore Golf Zip Through jacket does an excellent job of this. Slide it on and you'll notice the premium feel of the moisture-wicking fabric and once the main zip is fastened, the lightweight and minimalistic feel becomes more obvious.
The fabric is thin which means your swing doesn't feel restricted but it also means it doesn't provide the warmth some golfers may want, although layers can be easily added underneath. The tailored fit means excess material doesn't intrude and the smart, clean styling means it can be worn easily away from the course. It lacks the customization options some of the best waterproof jackets offer, like Velcro cuffs or an elasticated hem, but this didn't seem to detract from the playing experience.
Sizes: XS-3XL
Colors: 2 (Green/Blue/White, White/Black/Pink)
+ Good value for money
+ Impressive showerproof protection
- Might not offer full protection in severe rain
Crew Clothing's golf apparel collection offers a series of simple, modern garments designed with the course in mind. The first thing we noticed about this showerproof jacket was how stretchable and comfortable the fabric is. It is well enough fitted to look smart without being too athletic and preventing you from wearing multiple layers underneath.
Admittedly, we have only tested this jacket in light rain but it performed very well - we noticed the water beading straight off which was a good sign. The color combinations are another big plus. The navy and light blue version we tested looked modern and was versatile enough to be worn off the course as well as on it.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 5 (Coral Red, Black, Deep Navy, Grey, Lime)
+ Waterproof but lightweight
+ Breathable construction and therefore not sweaty
- Thin material and vents might not offer great cold/winter protection
This is an excellent and very good-value waterproof jacket that takes up very little space in the bag. Better still, it offers great protection from the rain with Mizuno’s advice that it is water-resistant to 2,000m. I was impressed with its extremely lightweight and flexible material, and the Velcro straps on the cuffs and back along with a toggle on the collar, mean you can customize the fit perfectly.
Any concerns about a restricted swing are alleviated by the stretchiness of the material which this year has been increased by 15%. Nobody wants to play in the rain, but this jacket is the perfect and unobtrusive companion allowing you to concentrate on your golf.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 5 (Grey, Black/Sharkskin, Navy/Lime, Navy/Blue, Navy/Red)
+ Easy to achieve a snug, comfortable fit
+ Modern design without being over the top
- Could feel softer to touch
Galvin Green's Armstrong is 100% waterproof thanks to a Gore-Tex Paclite stretch fabric construction, and importantly this fabric is also characterized by its lightness, breathability and also packability.
It feels like Galvin Green has truly thought about every little detail here with features like the partially elastic cuffs, chest width adjustment, repositioned side seam for optimum comfort and freedom of movement and water repellent zip fastenings. The fabrics used are also Bluesign approved which means harmful substances have been removed from the manufacturing process. Finally, design wise the jacket is available in five colors and looks modern without being over the top.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 3 (Blue, Red, Black)
+ Stretchy material
+ Quick to dry
- Some golfers may prefer a weightier jacket
Abacus says that 37.5 technology works to improve the microenvironment inside the garment; it allows the vapor to be forced through the fabric quicker, keeping your body and the garment dry. In testing we certainly felt this was the case as we played during an absolute downpour and yet we remained perfectly dry. We also enjoyed the extreme 4-way stretch which makes this jacket extremely comfortable to play golf in.
Overall the brand has managed to create a waterproof jacket that is not only mightily effective in keeping you dry and comfortable as you play, but one that looks really stylish, too, with plenty of subtle design touches.
Sizes: XS-2XL
Colors: 2 (Grey, Black)
+ Waterproof
+ Made from recycled plastics
- Material around cuff may feel too loose for some
The waterproof Wandle jacket is another impressive garment from Reflo. It will keep you perfectly dry in even the heaviest downpours - and it looks very smart.
The material is also very stretchy, which is another positive. It means you can swing without feeling restricted. Reflo has opted not to go for velcro on the cuffs, but they are elasticated, so you can find your perfect fit. If you have slim wrists, as I do, you might find yourself with a bit too much material around the cuffs for your liking.
How we test for the best golf rain jackets
When it comes to testing waterproof jackets (opens in new tab), and indeed all apparel, our ethos and methodology revolves around putting the gear on, and using it out on the golf course, in different conditions. Obviously to test waterproofing we game the apparel in wet conditions, and we have also gone to extreme measures before, like pouring water all over the jackets to test how seam-sealed they are.
We think the best way of actually testing golf products is to use them thoroughly on the golf course, over a number of rounds, but we also try them off the golf course too because some models are extremely versatile. We then use these experiences to create reviews and buying advice content. Speaking of which we should make very clear, no manufacturer can buy a good review from us, we tell it how we see it.
What to consider when buying a golf rain jacket
So what are some of the factors you need to consider when trying to find the right waterproof golf jacket for you? Let's take a look.
Waterproofing
Obviously the most important thing is waterproofing. If a jacket doesn't keep the rain at bay, regardless of strength and duration, then it isn't worth having. Thankfully pretty much all of the models above will protect you from the rain in excellent fashion largely because they have been designed specifically for that purpose.
In terms of specifics, when doing your research be aware of the phrase 'water resistant' because this does not mean the jacket is completely waterproof, and also check if jackets have been seam-sealed because this is usually a great barometer of how waterproof a jacket is. We would also recommend checking if some models have a waterproof warranty, as well as having a look at our best golf rainwear (opens in new tab) guide.
Protection
A good waterproof jacket will also help you in the wind and cold too. The best models stop the wind penetrating the fabric and making your core cold, and also have nice features like fleece lined pockets to give you some respite from the poor conditions.
Color
If you are wearing it, you have to like what it looks like. No longer are golf rain jackets drab and boring to look at because now there are designs for all fashion senses. It is just a case of picking a design and color you like.
Freedom of movement
With all this protection, occasionally rain jackets can be large and cumbersome but in modern golf design this is no longer the case. Most really good models stretch and move with the body freely so that your swing isn't hindered despite having a few layers on. Models like the FootJoy HydroTour and adidas Rain.Rdy are prime examples of this and we would always recommend trying a jacket on and making some swings in it before purchasing.
Budget
Finally be aware of your budget so you can find a jacket that fits into it nicely. Importantly there are models above which come with premium, and value price points so there is something for everyone.
FAQ's
How should a golf waterproof jacket fit?
A good golf waterproof jacket needs to find a delicate balance. It needs to feel slightly snug to keep you warm, not let any rain near the body, and to not interfere with the swing, but not too tight that it restricts movement. This is no real issue for the arms and cuffs really as most models have adjustability in these areas but you should be wary of getting the wrong size for the torso. A rule of thumb is that is must come down to roughly in line with the bottom of your belt.
What is the best golf rain jacket?
There are lots of excellent models of golf jacket on the market. From big brands like FootJoy, adidas and Under Armour, to smaller ones like Galvin Green, Ocean Tee and Stuburt, there are lots of top models out right now. In terms of the best,
