Best Golf Polo Shirts
Nowadays, the best golf polo shirts look very different to how they did ten or even five years ago, with a whole range of new performance fabrics and technologies used in construction.
This is because golf polos have to be able to do a lot of things these days. The best models give a lot of mobility so the athletic movement of the golf swing is not compromised, whilst they also sit comfortably on your torso and arms. A good model will also be lightweight, breathable on those hot days, and even help in terms of wicking sweat, blocking UV rays, and maybe even anti-odor technology. Finally, they have to look good as well. Some brands and models decide to really push the boat out which is great, whereas some look to have a more understated design so they can be worn anywhere.
Acknowledging all of this, below we take a look at some of the best designs on the market. These are shirts that will help you feel and look good on the fairways, allowing you to focus on your game and play your best. Additionally, if you want to complete the ensemble, we recommend checking out some of our other buying guides on the best golf tops (opens in new tab) and also best golf trousers (opens in new tab), so you can get the entire outfit right.

Sizes: XS-2XL
Colors: 6 (Navy, Black, Burgundy, Green, White, Hemp)
+ Camo print really stands out
+ Lots of colors and sizes
- Material does feel thin
A new design from adidas, this polo is certainly one for those who want to stand out a bit more on the golf course. We really liked the camo print and the fact it comes in six different colors is a big bonus too. Obviously this will divide opinion but it also strikes the balance between style and performance. The fabric, whilst being quite thin, offers a lightweight feel and a lot of stretch. This fabric is a combination of ‘Primegreen’ which has been made using recycled materials - and sustainably sourced cotton for an ultra soft handle throughout. Provided you get the right size, the polo is very comfortable and really fits well. If you want to try something a little different, we cannot recommend this polo enough.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 4 (Grey, Black, White, Navy)
+ Simple, clean styling goes with anything
+ Lightweight material, easily worn with other layers
- Athletic fit may be restrictive for some
FootJoy’s Thermolite long sleeve shirt is a garment that should see plenty of use outside of the warmest summer days. It has a very simple design - there are no bold patterns or prints to catch your attention here - but the athletic fit and smart collar create a modern look that we liked.
The first thing we noticed was how lightweight this garment was. It can easily be worn with or without other layers on top, ideal for changing conditions. The cuffs are nicely fitted too, so there is no excess material around your hands as you grip the club, with a ‘temperature regulating fabric’ helping keep golfers stay warm and dry. What we particularly liked was how it naturally stretched in tune with the golf swing.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 3 (Black, Navy, White)
+ Ideal long sleeve polo option for spring/summer
+ Smart, simple design
- Does feel quite thin
We have started to see more brands offer long-sleeve polo shirt options of late and one such example is ProQuip with this Performance shirt. Available in three colors (black, navy, white), we really liked the smart, simple design with the only design flourish being the ProQuip branding on the back, which is finished in the same color as the shirt so it blends in nicely.
It is made from 100% soft polyester which does offer a thin feel so it is perhaps a shirt best for those spring/summer rounds. This fabric also means it stretches nicely and provides UV protection as well as moisture wicking properties.
Overall if you want a long sleeve polo option, then this is definitely one to try given the value as well.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 3 (Grey, Caviar, Cloud Grey)
+ Guaranteed quality
+ Easy to look after
- You might want something more striking
Some brands like to think that they can pull off the on and off-course look but Penguin really do it as well as anyone. When you scroll through all their offerings it’s hard to give any of them a mental ‘no’ given how stylish and cool all of their pieces are.
This polo ticks a lot of boxes; the double-knit fabrication means it is cleverly both thick enough to give you a lovely feel as well as being light and breathable for the hotter days. The texture features a very subtle diamond pattern and my favorite part is the detailing inside the collar and soft nature of it that makes it perfect to go underneath your favorite bits of knitwear. Size wise it’s pretty much spot on, long enough to tuck into your trousers though still an ideal length if you want to wear it in a more casual fashion. And you won’t need to get the iron out as it washes perfectly and everything just falls into place.
Sizes: XS-3XL
Colors: 3 (Blue/White, Blue/Pink, White/Teal)
+ Classic polo with smart, modern styling
+ Lightweight, stretchable fabric moves with the golf swing
- Technical fabric makes it more of an on course garment
The technical color block polo shirt provides golfers with some sport-specific benefits in a design that’s both smart and versatile. We are big fans of this garment, and believe it can easily be worn with a range of different colored trousers or shorts.
Featuring a zip-up collar, which is a point of difference to most of the other polos you’ll find in this guide, the first thing you will notice is how lightweight it is. As a result, it can easily be worn under thicker garments during the winter months without restricting your swing. It also aided by the stretch technical fabric, which also makes this more applicable for on course wear than off course.
Sizes: XS-3XL + Regular/Tall
Colors: 3 (Black/White, Versa Blue / Oxford Blue etc)
+ Extremely comfortable
+ We love the Jacquard pattern
- Some might feel it’s too stretchy
The Playoff Jacquard Polo 2.0 has a very stretchy make-up to give a supremely comfortable wear with a lovely, soft fabric. It might even be too stretchy for some, and due to that we’d probably recommend going for a smaller size if you’re in between sizes.
It comes in just three colors, which is a shame, as we’d love to see this in the blue, grey and red options currently available. Despite the lack of colors, it’s undoubtedly one of the best golf polo shirts on the market. It feels very well made and we also loved the color, which feels strong and durable.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 4 (Navy/Blue bell/White, Grey/light pink etc)
+ Lightweight, with a good fit
+ Soft and comfortable
- Not the warmest garment
The Makai polo shirt from Galvin Green is very flashy, which may split opinion, but it’s something we liked. What else we liked was the sizing. Galvin Green products have a tendency to run small but that was not the case here, which added another layer of comfort.
The material is very lightweight and breathable, allowing for total swing freedom, which is another plus, but it perhaps makes it better suited to warmer conditions. It comes in four colors and features a host of retro-looking triangle patterns, so if you like to make a statement when you’re on the course, this polo is definitely one to consider.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 4 (Green, Dark Blue, Orange, Light Blue)
+ Stylish and comfortable design
+ Lightweight and breathable
- Sleeves come up quite short
Castore is making a splash in the golf market with ambassadors like US Open champion Matthew Fitzpatrick and it’s no wonder with shirts like the Fiesta Golf Vita (opens in new tab). It is extremely lightweight, so ideal on hot summer days, and stylish too.
It’s very breathable also and you certainly won’t overheat or feel uncomfortable in any way playing in this shirt. In testing, we felt that the styling is such that you probably wouldn’t wear it much away from the course, but it looks the part on the fairways and comes in four color options. In terms of the fit, it comes up a little short in the arms, but elsewhere it is neither too tight or baggy and the perfect length.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colours: 8 (White; Black; Navy; Orange; Charcoal; Oxford Blue; Petrol Blue; Red)
+ Very stretchy and comfortable
+ 8 colors
- Comes up large
The Performance Polo is the ultimate golf polo from Under Armour with a very stretchy make-up to give a supremely comfortable wear with a lovely, soft fabric. It comes in 8 different colors. We absolutely loved the heather grey color that we tested.
It wicks sweat, dries fast and also protects you from the sun. The durable, rib-knit collar is also noticeably sturdy so shouldn’t fold over after time like some cheaper polos. We really can’t find much wrong with with polo although beware that it does come up large, so we’d recommend sizing down unless you like a baggy fit. It’s also very reasonably priced at £35 in the UK.
Sizes: XS-4XL
Colors: 5 (Red, White, Pink, Gray, Green)
+ Super comfortable, with stretchy material
+ Excellent design fit for Tiger
- Buttons can pop loose
This fantastic golf polo is one of the highlights of Nike’s Tiger Woods collection and is perhaps one of the most stylish golf polo shirts we’ve had the pleasure of testing. It is super comfortable and lightweight being made of a stretchy polyester material that expands and contracts to your body’s movements. It doesn’t fit too tightly on the body either, meaning the polo gives you a great range of movement, allowing you to really twist into your backswing and rip through your follow-through. The fabric also uses Nike’s patented Dri-FIT ADV technology, which wicks moisture away from your body to help you feel dry and cool on the course.
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 3 (Black, Orange, Blue)
+ Great comfort and warmth
+ Classy styling
- Only comes in three colors
The Ping Elemental Polo is a long sleeved polo shirt that should be a must-own for golfers who like a long sleeved option. Having been huge fans of the Angus polo from Ping, this is essentially the upgraded version made from stretchy polyester and once again it comes with a great fit and comfort, with the arm-length perfect - something you don’t always get with long sleeved tops. It even features a Graphene print inside, which is said to conduct heat. We certainly did notice just how warm this was to wear on a chilly day.
It’s supremely classy in the one-color styling and subtle Ping logo on the front right shoulder. The only negative we can really say is that it comes in just three colorways and one of them is bright orange - we’re not sure many will be fans of that. We absolutely loved the black and would like to see others in colors such as grey, white, navy, red and green.
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 4 (Navy/Jewel Red, Cool Blue/ Navy, Teal/Ochre, White/Navy
+ Awesome design
+ Teal/Ochre option gives the feeling of the Ryder Cup
- Not for those who don’t like man-made fibers
Polo shirts are usually purchased because of their design and color, in this case Oscar Jacobson has hit the jackpot with this wonderful Durham Polo shirt. There are several great options to choose from, we particularly like the European Ryder Cup Team feeling of the Teal and Ochre option. The stripes and flashes on the sleeves and on the front and back of the collar are a very pleasant detailing.
The micro pique fabric is 98% polyester and 2% Elastane, this allows for some all-important stretch that could be required when swinging whilst also being very breathable and comfortable to wear. An excellent shirt that will make you stand out on the course whilst also letting you play to your best.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 1
+ Super-soft fabric
+ Funky design
- Only one color
Travis Matthew offers a selection of polo shirts that cater for all tastes and the Outfresh is at the quirkier end of their range. It features a fun design that shows a slightly odd mix of graphics, from tents to trees, to a man by a golf cart raising a beer. It’s fun to look at though and certainly eye-catching.
The shirt is soft to the touch and comfortable to wear. It’s machine washable and features stretch technologies to maximize freedom of movement. Something to note is how lightweight this polo is and that really adds to the comfort levels. Made from a mixture of Polyester and cotton, it’s moisture wicking and will help you retain a consistent temperature in a range of playing conditions.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 3 (Dusky Blue/White, Jester Red/White, Teal Hue/White)
+ Thick material makes it perfect in autumn/winter conditions
+ Great fit that stays tucked in
- Wouldn't suit hot conditions
When donning a polo shirt for your golf game it should be aesthetically smart and provide comfort when walking out on the course. For the Farah Golf Ferris Polo, it does this in abundance, with sleek looks matched by a great fit that is neither baggy or tight, the perfect combination for when you are swinging the club.
The material is slightly thicker than other polos on this list, making it perfect for autumn and winter conditions and, what's more, it has nice touches like ribbed sleeves and collar, meaning it holds close to the skin but not so much that it's restrictive. It also stays tucked in throughout the round, with a three button placket at the neck of the shirt allowing for even more breathability if it's required.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 3 (Black Heather, Magnetic Blue, Peacoat)
+ Lovely soft feel
+ Attractive pattern
- Sleeves come up a little short
First thing you’ll notice with this Callaway polo is how soft it feels on the skin. It’s extremely comfortable to wear. It’s also very lightweight and the stretch properties add to the comfort factor.
It’s a good-looking polo too with a nice polka-dot style pattern, tidy and soft collar plus three button placket. Moisture-wicking technologies help regulate your temperature making it a strong garment in most weathers. Given it’s so lightweight, it works well as an under-layer.
The polo is made in part from recycled materials (30%) so is eco-friendly. It also showcases Callaway’s Swing Tech technology which gives you excellent freedom of movement in the swing. It’s one that you won’t find any sort of restrictions with when wearing.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 1 (Black and White)
+ Smart, athletic fit with a lightweight feel
+ Stylish handkerchief pattern
- Only one color option
PXG have a strong reputation in producing some of the most modern and stylish golf equipment on the market, and that is certainly the case with their fantastic Handkerchief Panel Polo Shirt. It is, in our opinion, one of the stand out items in PXG's superb clothing range, boasting a smart and unique aesthetic that can be worn on and off the golf course.
On the shoulders and sides, the top features a handkerchief pattern that is framed by white piping. This gives it an excellent look that can be paired well with any color trousers or shorts. The collar of the shirt isn't too stiff either and also features a cool PXG logo on the left side that adds to the premium feel of the top. The fabric is made of a stretchable nylon and elastine composite which moved very nicely with our swing and did not feel restrictive at all. The shirt's fabric is also quick drying and will deliver UV protection on sunny days.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 2 (Grey and Navy)
+ Extremely lightweight, with snug, tailored fit
+ Very soft and stretchy fabric
- Won’t keep you especially warm
This is probably as close to feeling like you’re playing golf topless as you’re likely to experience. The material on this polo shirt is incredibly thin and lightweight, it barely adds a few ounces to your shoulders. Despite being billed as slim fit, it doesn’t come up excessively tight - opting for your usual size will do just fine - helped by the stretchiness of the material used.
During hot days, this shirt managed our temperature really well not by being noticeably thin but also by wicking away sweat with consummate ease, helping us stay comfortable all the way round. The styling is modest but there’s enough there to catch your eye in the wavy JL pattern across the chest and the grey ‘volcanic ash’ colorway is particularly versatile. On cooler days, you’ll likely need to add a vest or a mid layer, but for sunny days on the fairways, this shirt will do an excellent job.
Sizes: (inches) 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46
Colors: 5 (White, Light Blue, Blue, Red, Black)
+ Classy feel to the fabric both inside and out
+ Understated tone-on-tone rather than flashy branding
- Quite long in the sleeve so may have to hitch up to play shots
Synthetic fabrics vary markedly in feel and touch, but if they all felt like the Altare, nobody could have any complaints. It feels great both inside and out, with the vaguest hint of a fleecy feel on the inside promising warmth that is then delivered once you’re wearing it.
It could be the perfect ‘wear alone’ garment on many early autumn and spring days when you need a little more than a short-sleeved polo but don’t want to layer up too much. There’s plenty of stretch to the fabric so you never feel restricted when swinging, although the sleeves were a touch long for us so we often had to hitch them up a little to clear the hands when hitting shots.
Sizes: S-XXL (Slim fit)
Colors: Three (White, Green, Blue)
+ Very soft feel and relaxed fit
+ Made from ethically sourced materials
- Pattern may put some players off
Made from naturally biodegradable TENCEL fibers, this golf polo shirt will do great things for the environment while jazzing up your golf wardrobe. OCEANTEE are renowned for producing some of the most sustainable golf clothing in the business and this polo comes as part of that collection, being made of a very soft, yet ethically sourced fabric.
The polo itself doesn’t fit too tightly around the body, making it great for summer conditions. It is also very breathable and boasts quick-drying and anti-odor technology that will keep you cool on the course. Playing in the shirt, we did feel the pattern was a little striking for us, yet it was super comfortable compared to other tops on the market and provided excellent mobility in our swing movements.
Sizes: S-XLL
Colors: 4 (White, Black, Red, Blue)
+ Classic cut and fit that provides warmth
+ Jazzy design without being too loud
- Limited range of colors
This medium-weight polo shirt is made from a combination of 94% Polyester and 6% Polyacrylate, and looks very smart. The Mizuno logo appears high up on both the front (top-left) and back (middle), and the asymmetrical pattern on the front is attractive and modern. Most importantly, it feels very comfortable with a real softness to the fabric using Mizuno’s heat-generating Breath Thermo material.
It therefore works well as a winter shirt over a base layer or inside other clothing - perhaps both - as well as being wearable all year round. I wore the shirt with a variety of outer layers and it felt very comfortable with them all, as well as on its own.
Sizes: XS-XXL
Colors: 3 (Navy, Aqua & Black)
+ Very stretchy, with excellent breathability
+ Environmentally friendly and looks smart on and off the course
- Thin material won’t appeal to all
This incredibly lightweight shirt, which is made from recycled plastic waste, is technology-packed. TEMPCNTRL technology allows unwanted heat to leave your body, keeping you at the optimal temperature. Meanwhile, SunProect fabric gives you a UV shield. Combined with its stretch qualities, it’s perfect for playing golf in – although, as Relfo always says, ‘How you wear it is up to you.’
The laser-cut edges and tapered raglan seams give this shirt its modern look. The Reflo lettering appears on the rear of the collar, as well as on the end of the left sleeve. Reflo’s ‘R’ also appears on the bottom of the shirt, although you can’t see this if you tuck the shirt in. These are all nice extra touches that help it to stand out.
Sizes: S-XXXL
Colors: 5 (Slate Grey, Black, French Navy etc)
+ Lightweight
+ Unfussy design
- Fabric all down the arm may be uncomfortable for some
You may not be someone who would usually pick a long-sleeve polo, but this Stuburt polo is certainly one to consider. Very smart styling along with the long sleeve means that the polo would be paired well with a gilet or any mid-layer.
We particularly liked the red flash around the collar and neck area, something that catches the eye subtly. The shirt is made from 100% polyester, which won’t be to everyone’s taste, but it is a breathable and attractive garment at an affordable price.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 5 (Navy with lavender, Ink with dusk blue etc)
+ Unique aesthetic
+ Keeps you cool and dry
- Dolphin print won't be for everyone
FootJoy has attempted to inject an element of sunshine and positivity into golf and its apparel with this Leaping Dolphin design.
The polo has a unique and trendy design that is sure to get people talking, but it is not just about the look. It has been created with ProDry stretch fabric designed to keep you cool and dry for the duration of your round of golf and beyond. The polyester and spandex blend gives a comfortable and lightweight feel that doesn’t hinder movement and it provides SPF 30 UV protection as well.
We had the navy and pink version of this shirt but if that isn't for you then there are five other colors to choose from.
Sizes: S-XXL
Colors: 10 (Black/High Rise, Navy Blazer/Hot Coral etc)
+ Very breathable and stretchy fabric
+ Good value for money in the golf polo market
- Could only wear on the golf course
Puma is a brand always at the forefront of golf fashion, seeking to push the game and its style forwards and to new different places. The new MATTR One Way Polo gives visual evidence of that.
In terms of performance, Puma has implemented a new MATTR (Materials, Technology & Research) performance fabric designed for the highest level of comfort no matter the climate condition. It is a moisture-wicking, fast-drying fabric that has a breathable, stretchy and lightweight feel to it so you can play your best.
Sizes: XS-4XL
Colours: One (Smoke Grey/Black)
+ Very stylish design
+ Nice, flexible fit
+ Comfortable stretchy material
- Lack of color options is limiting
The Nike Dri-FIT Victory polo is a stylish offering from Nike that is packed full of technology that will wick moisture away from your skin and keep you cool, dry and comfortable during your round. After taking this shirt for a spin, we were impressed by how well-aerated the polo kept us on the course.
That is largely down to the polo’s lightweight polyester material, which gives this shirt a soft feel to the touch and stretches nicely, giving you a full range of movement. On that note, this polo fits nicely around the body and the arms to strike the perfect balance of not being too constricting but also not being too baggy. Nike produce some of the best golf garments on the market and we have put together a guide on some of the best Nike polo shirts (opens in new tab) for you to peruse.
Sizes: S-3XL
Colors: 5 (Caviar, Bright White etc)
+ Great for moisture control
+ Simple, classic design that offers good value and versatility
- Pocket is a bit redundant
Original Penguin do a great line in polo shirts, part 'golfy' and part very much more leisure wear. This Earl Polo Shirt offering probably sits in the latter category. With five nice colors to choose from and the really noticeable thing about this is that it's really cool, both in appearance but also in its performance.
It feels lightweight and breathable, ideal for hot weather. This is done through its construction from a moisture-wicking fabric and, to repeat the point, it will keep you fresh and dry throughout the round. Additionally the white tip detailing on the collar and cuffs gives the shirt a real lift and it washes great and, if anything, is even better after a few rounds as the shirt softens a bit.
Sizes: S-2XL
Colors: 6 (Ink, Heather Brady Blue etc)
+ Freedom of movement exceeded expectations
+ Soft, comfortable feel
- Best suited for athletic body types
Tom Brady will always be known first and foremost for his skills on the football field, but his new apparel brand, BRADY, which launched in January of 2022, has some quality golf options to choose from. In our testing, the BRADY Polo In Cotton Feel performed very well on the course. It was extremely comfortable and also offered range of motion that exceeded what we were expecting.
The six colors that are offered in the Brady polo are all stylish but traditional, allowing them to work with any number of a golfer's other wardrobe options. And we also found that the shirt was easy to care for when it comes to washing and that it holds up well after use. Do be advised that the Brady polo was designed to deliver a slimmer fit, so some golfers might want to go up in size.
How we test golf apparel
We test golf apparel (opens in new tab) in the same way we test all golf equipment, by using products properly. In relation to polo shirts this means putting them to the test out on the golf course to see if the design is well thought out, if it moves nicely throughout the swing, and simply is the polo is usable. Additionally, wearing it on the course in different conditions gives us an idea on breathability, warmth if needed, and looks.
We would also wear the polos off the golf course as well because versatility to use a garment anywhere is a great way to get value for money. The final point we wanted to mention here is no manufacturer can pay for a good review because our thorough testing team tells it how it is.
How to choose the right polo shirt
As mentioned, there is a lot to think about when picking the right polo shirt for you. With that in mind, we have come up with several things for you to think about before purchasing.
Length
During the golf swing if you find your shirt coming untucked often, or your belly starts to show then you should think about a polo with a longer length. That way it will remain tucked in throughout the round and beyond.
Fit
Do you want a more loose fitting polo or something with more of an athletic fit? Slim fit or classic fit? Most polos come in lots of sizes so be wary of getting something that isn't fitting correctly for you.
Sleeves
It doesn't sound that important, but a polo with sleeves too long or too short can be annoying. They should come to the middle of the upper arm, and the seam should align with the middle of the shoulders.
Fabric
Have a think about what fabric you would like the polo to be made from. For example, there are loads of materials used these days such as polyester, spandex, lycra, nylon and cotton. Often polos are made with a combination of these.
Technology
Most brands make polo shirts that offer technology to help in a variety of ways. For example, many help with moisture management and sweat wicking which keeps the body dry and comfortable. Some also offer UV protection and anti-microbial properties too, so it is worth thinking about what aspect you find important here. Of course, several of the models above have been designed with all of these facets in mind.
Design
Striped? Floral? An all-over print? Gone are the days of drab boring polo designs and in modern golf most brands really push the boat out. The sheer array of polo shirts we picked out above shows this clearly. Whatever fashion sense you have, there will be a polo for you.
Price
Of course the price is always something people should think about. There is great value to be had with the models above but there are also more premium models for those wanting to spend a little more. Put simply, there is something for everyone.
FAQ's
What is the difference between a polo shirt and a golf shirt?
The main difference between a normal polo shirt and a golf shirt is the fabric used in construction. Most polos are made from fabrics like cotton and linen whilst golf polos are often made with a combination of fabrics like spandex, polyester and also cotton. After all, the golf polo has to be able to stretch and deal with the athletic movement of a golf swing.
Can you wear golf polos casually?
The short answer here is yes but it has to be the right shirt. Many of the models we selected in our best golf polos guide have understated designs that would look at home off the golf course, whilst others are perhaps best suited for the links and not many other places.
What makes a good golf polo?
A good golf polo does a lot of things. It has to be breathable, lightweight, help with sweat, protect from the sun, feel comfortable, and also look good as well. We also think the best designs can be versatile enough to be used anywhere.
