  • In 2006, Kohei Nishimura opened a small shop in Tokyo’s Meguro neighborhood, stocking two or three styles of in-house clothing, small leather goods, and a selection of old stationary. After receiving immediate and resounding praise, as well as orders from suburban select shops, Nishimura decided to start a fully-fledged clothing line. While, at times, the self-taught designer draws inspiration from music, movies, books, and current events, Nishimura’s creative process is casual and ever-changing, which results in an aesthetic that can be hard to define. However, some qualities that remain consistent are DIGAWEL’s commitment to Japanese production, unique textiles, and off-kilter design details that make standard garment types seem new.
